Welcome to Rwanda, the land of 1000hills and a million smiles…The country has a unique remarkable beauty and definitely one of those places that are “a must – visit”. Centrally located in Africa, Rwanda is known as the heart of Africa. Being the bridge between the eco-systems of the Congo and the Great Rift Valley, it is home to 324 of the world’s 700 remaining mountain gorillas and this makes Rwanda very popular for gorilla safaris. A trek to see these wonderful creatures in the Volcanoes National Park, is a lifetime experience.
The four principal areas of interest are; The Virunga Volcanoes National Park, Akagera National Park, Nyungwe Forest National Park and the region around Lake Kivu.
If you love nature, Rwanda is to be. The chain of mountains, split by the Rift Valley, and dominated by a mountain range that traverses the country from north to south give the country a very good feel of the Wilderness. A large part of the country has an elevation of between 1,500 and 2,500 meters.
Rwanda is also a wonderful destination for bird watching; there are almost 525 species of birds in the Akagera National Park and 4 endemics as well as a large number of migrant birds,
Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the most important ornithological sites in Rwanda harboring almost 275 bird species of which half a dozen are restricted to a handful of montane forests on the Albertine Rift.
